Las Milpitas

CITY Center for Collaborative Learning is a proud partner in the Las Milpitas de Cottonwood Community Farm. The farm lies along the banks of the Santa Cruz, south of downtown.

Las Milpitas is an important component of our ‘farm to school’ program. Students and staff visit Las Milpitas throughout the year to incorporate the study of food and farming into different subjects, from culinary arts to local history, and to contribute to garden projects. A group of City High School students work each year with our AmeriCorps Member to tend garden plots and help with farm chores on a weekly basis.

Our history with the land dates back to 2006 when we took on stewardship of the Pima County-owned acreage. In 2011, Las Milpitas became a partnership with the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona, who play the lead role in the farm’s operation. Las Milpitas is a community resource, open to all: families, schools, and others who want to adopt a plot or volunteer. The farm is located between South Cottonwood Lane and the Santa Cruz River, south of 29th/Silverlake.
