Principal’s Notes

We continue to make efforts to involve parents in our school community on all levels. Earlier this year I started a parent email group to send electronic copies of the Weekly Bulletin and other announcements out regularly; please let me know if you want to be added to the list. This spring we will have a parent workshop on issues related to teen drug and alcohol use and the second in our series on the college planning process. Information about the upcoming workshops is on back.  The PTO-group City High Parents remains active and we have parent representatives on our site council. Let us know if you want to get more involved or be more informed and we will do what we can to make that happen!

Half Day Schedule – Friday, March 17

This Friday marks the end of third quarter. Students will have a half-day schedule to allow for teacher grading time in the afternoon. Classes will run from 8:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. (Electives will not meet on Friday.) Third quarter report cards will be processed the week of March 20 and sent

out by March 27.

Chess Club

Chess Club continues to convene on an informal, drop-in basis on Wednesday mornings at 9:30 a.m. as it has all year. In addition, Chess Club will now convene on Fridays at 3:30 p.m. as well.

Everyone is welcome to join in - all participants, all levels. The Chess Club is coached by parent volunteer David Kelley. (Do you have any extra chessboards at home that are no longer used?Drop them by the school as a donation to the Chess Club.)

AIMS Success

There were very few tardies or absences on the days of the AIMS test, and the few students who were out sick were present for the make-up days the following week. We had a 98% completion rate for both the reading and writing portions of AIMS. Thank you to parents and students for

helping reinforce the importance of attendance on test days – and all school days!

What is “Community Day” dress code?

In the 2005-2006 City High School Student Handbook that all students received in August, the school’s regular dress code and the “Community Day” dress code are explained on page 10.Regular dress code prohibits drug or alcohol images; gang-affiliated significance; ripped holes; and any promotion of racism or violence. When students know ahead of time that they will be on a trip, conducting fieldwork, or hosting a guest speaker in their class, they must abide by the “Community Day” dress code. This is the regular dress code with the addition of wearing a City High School shirt or clothing with no logos, images or messages.
