Principal’s Notes

Students are working hard to wrap up first semester. Major projects are due in a number of core classes, including Division I Humanities and Division II Science. Many City Works classes have presentations this week. Some students are busy with make-up work. Everyone is ready for a well-deserved Winter Break. School will be closed the weeks of December 19 and 26 with classes resuming Monday, January 2, 2006. (The office will be open reduced hours during the Winter Break. Please call ahead to ensure that someone is here if you plan to stop by the school.)

Intersession Week will take place January 2-6, 2006. The week between semesters will be a time for student conferences, whole school events, test prep (AIMS and TerraNova), service learning, tutorials, and other community activities. More information for parents will be mailed home regarding the conferences and the week’s agenda. Please note that report cards will be sent home the week of January 9.

Student Conference Days during Intersession

Students will participate in end-of-semester conferences on Tuesday, January 3 or Thursday, January 5. The conferences are an opportunity for students to highlight certain aspects of their learning this semester and to set goals for next semester. Each conference will be 20 minutes and include approximately 5 people: the students, his or her advisor, one or two parents or guardians, another adult (invited by the student), and a peer or two (invited by the student). Students will be preparing for the conference in their core classes and advisories as part of the intersession week activities. Please look for an upcoming mailing that describes the conferences in more detail and explains how to sign up for a conference time.

Second Semester Lunches

The lunch program will be similar next semester, with burritos offered on Mondays, burgers on Tuesdays, sandwiches and salads on Thursdays, and pizza on Fridays. Lunches will continue to be $3.00/lunch. Students need to prepay for lunches and can do so by the week, the month, or the semester. Sign-up sheets for second semester lunches are now available at the school office. Any questions? Please call our Business Manager, Kate Goldman, 623-7223 x202. (See form on back.)

Parents Organization – Second Semester Plans

City High Parents have made a few plans for 3rd quarter. There will be a Work Day focusing on fixing up the outdoor alley area on February 18 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Look for more information and requests for donations and skills in January. The second semester staff appreciation breakfast will take place Wednesday, March 1 from 8:00-9:00 a.m. Parent volunteers will be needed to buy, prepare, and organize the breakfast. City High Parents meets the 3rd Tuesday of each month from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at the school. All are encouraged to participate. Next meeting: January 17.
