Principal’s Notes
I hope that everyone had a restful Thanksgiving holiday. It’s hard to believe that there are only 3 weeks left in the semester. The City High School winter break will be two weeks in length from December 17-January 1 with school resuming on Monday, January 2.
Our new counselor, David Spire, and I are creating opportunities for students to learn more about college and other post-high school opportunities. We brought a group of students to Pima College to take the assessment test on November 16. We will schedule another similar outing in January or February for students who couldn’t make it this month. On January 18, Dani Rollins from the University of Arizona Admissions Office will come to speak with interested juniors and sophomores. The meeting will take place at 9:30 during the late-start Wednesday morning time. Meanwhile, David Spire is meeting with juniors over the next few months to begin working on post-graduation plans. Parents can call me or contact David directly at davids@cityhighschool.org to learn more about the post-graduation planning and other college-related opportunities.
Core Class Feature
Division II math teacher, Michael Herzog, has started a teacher website that all sophomore and junior students and parents are encouraged to visit. There is a “Math Homework” button that brings up a calendar with information about in-class assignments and lessons and related homework. His website is accessible from the City High School website: www.cityhighschool.org. Check it out!
Benefit Concert for City High School Music Program
There will be a student-organized benefit on Sunday, December 4, from 1:00-5:00 p.m. featuring two youth bands and a popular local band called the Knockout Pills to raise money for the music program and other performing arts. City High parent Noël Chester is helping out by donating her downtown establishment, The District Tavern on Congress Street, for the event. The benefit will take place when the tavern is regularly closed. It will be a safe and monitored environment. Soda, juice, and water will be available for purchase. There will be no smoking allowed and no alcohol available.
