Weekly Bulletin
for City High School Families

October 24, 2005

Principal’s Notes
As I’ve mentioned before in the Weekly Bulletin, we are eager to get students thinking ahead to their options after high school. Every October, colleges and universities from all over the country come to Tucson for a big college night held at the Tucson Convention Center. The event takes place this week, Tuesday 10/25 from 6:30-9:00 p.m. We encourage all students to keep their options open and to learn as much as they can about the many routes they can take after graduation. For more information about the event and for details to meet up with City High School teachers, please see the flyer below.

YMCA Student Memberships
Students taking fusion fitness and/or dance for their electives or participating in the basketball team after school need to have a student membership to the YMCA. The discounted Y membership rate for charter school students is $10/month. Students must stay up-to-date with this membership or they will not be able to participate in their classes or activities. If you have any questions or need a scholarship from school, please let us know.

Library Work Day
Thanks to all of the volunteers who joined us on Saturday morning to work on the library. We made great headway getting the books processed and the space organized. Participants included
parents Malena Acosta, Sue Gilles, Lynda Hendrell, Marge Holiman, Trip McGrath, and Karen Mulholland; student Desiree Marcus.

First Quarter Report Cards
All report cards have been mailed out. If you have not received yours by mid-week, please contact the front office to check that we have accurate contact information for your child. If you have any questions about grades, please contact the teachers or your child’s advisor.

AIMS Retakes – Juniors Only
AIMS retakes take place Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday for juniors who still need to pass. All students have received information about the testing.

Halloween Events: Scary Movie Night & Costume Contest Day
The Student Voice Committee is sponsoring a Movie Night on Friday, October 28. Doors open at 6 and the movie starts at 6:30 p.m. The event costs $2.00 and includes admission and candy. To bring a non-City High friend, students need to get a permission slip signed by a parent and the principal by Thursday. The Student Voice Committee is also sponsoring a Costume Contest on Monday, October 31. Students can be creative in coming up with humorous, scary, or dramatic costumes. The dress code and other school rules still apply. Costumes cannot get in the way of learning (e.g., student must be able to sit in a chair) and face masks are off during class.
