Principal’s Notes
We have been in session for almost 2 months and first quarter is coming to a close this week. Teachers are looking forward to meeting with students and parents for conferences on Thursday and Friday. Division I teachers are available 12:30-4:30 p.m. both days. Division II teachers are available 4:00-7:30 p.m. on Thursday and 12:30-4:00 p.m. on Friday. Parents are welcome to make appointments with teachers anytime this week. Parents are also welcome to drop in during the conference times and sign-up for an appointment at that time. If you have any questions, please contact us in the office or email teachers directly.

Division II Students – PSATs Opportunity
The Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test is a test designed as a preparation test for the SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) and as a qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship program. All juniors who want to have the opportunity to apply to college should take the test. Sophomores are also welcome to take the test and have the option to re-take it as juniors next fall. The test is administered nationally on October 12 and 15. At City High School we are offering on Wednesday, October 12 from 8:30-11:00 a.m. The test costs $12 and families need to cover the cost of the test. If a family needs financial assistance, please contact Lynn or Carrie in the front office. All juniors received an “Official Student Guide” to share with parents.

AIMS Tutoring for Juniors
All juniors who have not passed the math portion of the state AIMS test will be offered math workshops during some of their elective periods over the next two weeks in preparation for AIMS test retakes on October 25, 26, 27. All students who qualify for the tutoring received a packet today for them and their parents explaining the days, times, and other information. Support Services Teacher Ed Moyer and Tutor Federico Chialvo are coordinating the math tutoring. They can be reached at 623-7223 or federico@cityhighschool.org for more information about the program.

School Start Time - Reminder
Students should arrive at school each morning by 8:25 a.m. in order to be on time for their classes, which start promptly at 8:30 a.m. It is very disruptive when some students arrive 5-10 minutes late and break the flow of their first period classes. If students need to arrive at school later than 8:30 a.m. due to appointments and other unavoidable circumstances, they can be excused with a note or phone call from their parents. Students with three or more unexcused late arrivals to school will receive an administrative referral and be assigned lunch detention for one week.
