Principal’s Notes
An important goal of City High School is to help students carefully consider and prepare for opportunities available to them when they graduate. Division II students, especially juniors, are encouraged to begin exploring directions they would like to take after high school. On Thursday, September 29, during the electives hour, there will be a college orientation meeting for all interested students. City High School administrators and David Rodriguez from the Pima Community College K-12 Outreach Center will share information about ways to take college-level credits in high school and important steps to take when preparing to apply to colleges. We will also share information with students about taking college-entrance tests, such as the PSAT, SAT and ACT, at this meeting. The annual College Info Night will take place October 25 from 6:30-9:00 p.m. at the Tucson Convention Center. Representatives from colleges all over the country will be available to share information about their programs and application process. We will coordinate a City High School contingent to go together; this might be especially helpful for students whose parents cannot attend or for families that are new to the college process. Look for more information next month.

School Arrival Time
Students should arrive at school each morning by 8:25 a.m. in order to be on time for their classes, which start promptly at 8:30 a.m. It is very disruptive when some students arrive 5-10 minutes late and break the flow of their first period classes. If students need to arrive at school later than 8:30 a.m. due to appointments and other unavoidable circumstances, they can be excused with a note or phone call from their parents. Students with three or more unexcused late arrivals to school will receive an administrative referral and be assigned lunch detention for one week.

Picture Day
Larry Lurie Photography will be here on Thursday morning. All students are required to take photos for school IDs. Students need to abide by the Community Day dress code with the additional requirement that there are no hats or scarves worn for pictures. Families have the option to purchase portrait packages, ranging from $9-$29. Students received information on Friday in advisory; extras are available in the office. Checks for packages need to be made out to the photography company.

Arizona School Tax Credit
City High School’s fundraising committee is asking parents to help raise money for the school through the Arizona Tax Credit program. Anyone who owes taxes to the state of Arizona can choose to donate up to $300 of their taxes to a school of their choice and receive a dollar-for-dollar credit on taxes owed. Look for a mailing sent home recently with a letter from parent Michelle Thomas (Abriel’s mom) describing the program and how it benefits the school. Any questions? Contact Jennifer Rosenthal, Grants & Development Coordinator at jrosenthal@cityhighschool.org or 623-7223 Mon, Wed, or Fri.
