Principal’s Notes
We are excited to offer students the opportunity to attend the public address by the Dalai Lama at the Tucson Convention Center on Monday, September 19. The expectation is that all students will attend the event. The presentation takes place from 3:00-4:00 p.m. and therefore requires that we extend the school day with dismissal from school at approximately 4:30 p.m. If this is not feasible for your child or family, please reference the permission slip (on back) to dismiss your child early from school. Also, all students will return to school together with staff, unless they have permission from a parent to be dismissed directly from the Tucson Convention Center (see permission slip on back).
We have a limited number of tickets available for parent volunteers. If you are interested in joining us on the field trip to the Dalai Lama’s talk, please call the office this week.
Parent Get-Together – Tuesday, September 20
A group of second-year parents, led by Lynda Hendrell, will host a parent get-together for new and returning parents at the school from 7:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, 9/20. The evening event will be an opportunity for parents to meet one another and to begin planning a PTA-type parent organization for City High School. Light snacks and drinks will be served. Extracurricular Program – Sign-Up Deadline Friday, Sept. 16
Students interested in the extracurricular options for this semester need to sign-up this week. Classes include yoga and biking on Wednesday mornings, theatre on Thursday afternoons, and basketball 2-3 afternoons/week. Sign-up forms are available at the school office.
Reminder – Office Hours
All teachers are available for extra help every Wednesday morning from 11 a.m.-12 noon. Students are encouraged to come to school at that time to do make-up work, check in with their teachers, do homework, participate in honors seminars, work on computers, etc. This is also a good time for parents to reach teachers.

DALAI LAMA VISIT – Monday, Sept. 19
As explained above, all staff and students will be attending the public presentation of the Dalai Lama’s visit to Tucson on Monday, September 19 from 3:00-4:00 p.m. Students will travel to and from the Tucson Convention Center (TCC) in advisory groups. Students will return to the school from and be ready for pick-up at approx. 4:30 p.m.
PLEASE NOTE:
THERE IS NO NEED TO SIGN AND RETURN THE FOLLOWING PERMISSION SLIP UNLESS YOU ARE GIVING YOUR CHILD PERMISSION FOR A SPECIAL DEPARTURE – SEE BELOW FOR DETAILS. Permission slips must be turned in by Friday 9/16.
