Principal’s Notes
This week Channel 12, the official channel for the City of Tucson, will be filming on campus. City High School will be included in an episode of “The Beat,” Channel 12’s program that features what’s happening in downtown Tucson. We are excited that others in the Tucson community are eager to learn more about City High School and to think about the role of youth in downtown revitalization. We’ll let you know more about when the story will air as soon as we get the information. Channel 12 website is www.ci.tucson.az.us/ch12.
We have reviewed all of the general permission forms filled out during registration, which inquired about including students in school-related publications and media stories, and are pleased to note that all parents and guardians did give permission for their son or daughter to be included. If you have any questions about this policy or about the Channel 12 news story, please do not hesitate to contact me.
In the Field
Much of our learning at City High School takes place beyond the school walls, especially on Wednesdays with our City Works classes. This week students are heading to a variety of locations, including the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, Santa Cruz River neighborhoods near Mission and Silverlake, and the workshop/warehouse for Creative Machines, a company that creates museum exhibits. Students need to remember this year that there is a “Community Day” dress code that they must abide by whenever they are heading out for a field trip or to conduct field work. Students can either wear their City High School t-shirt or wear a shirt with no images or words. This is to ensure that we are welcome wherever we might go as part of our class.
Office Hours
All teachers are available for extra help every Wednesday morning from 11 a.m.-12 noon. Students are encouraged to come to school at that time to do make-up work, check in with their teachers, do homework, etc.
Reminders
DROP-OFF/PICK-UP → The four parking spots directly in front of the school are our “drop-off/pick-up zone”. Please use these in the mornings and afternoons and avoid stopping on the street (in traffic) to drop off or pick up your child.
LUNCH → Students need to order and pre-pay for lunches so that we have an accurate count each day when ordering from the restaurants. Families can order and pre-pay for the amount of time and lunches that they prefer – weekly, monthly, by semester, for the year. Students or parents can pick up lunch sign-up sheets at the front office.
