Principal's Notes
Please
note that Friday, April 29 is a teacher inservice day and students
have off from school. Some students have volunteered to help set
up for the City Highlights event. The set-up shifts are taking place
on Friday from 10-2 and 2-5. Volunteers are welcome to join in during
either shift. Other students have volunteered to participate on
Saturday – some will be working with the Dia de Los Niños
event put on by the public library and the city, and others will
be helping us at the City Highlights event at the school. Students
can do both if they choose to, volunteering in the morning at the
library and in the afternoon at the school. We are excited to have
as many students as possible involved in the downtown events happening
on Saturday. It’s not too late to participate – if your
son or daughter would like to play a part, please have them talk
with me about what roles they might play.
Those who’ve volunteered thus far include:

In the Field
All students will go out in the field this week at least once with
their humanities class, working on the habit of “perspective”
and writing fictional pieces set in the downtown area. The Core
1 math class will head to the University of Arizona this week for
a special math workshop led by mathematics graduate students; the
students will miss their morning classes and return in time for
afternoon classes. The Science Center City Works class is visiting
the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum during their class on Wednesday,
April 27.
Core Class Feature
As part of their current unit “Fictionmania!” in humanities,
students are reading a novel of their choice. Humanities classes
visited the downtown branch of the Tucson Pima Public Library last
week and each student received a library card. Teacher Eve Rifkin
worked with students to help them choose a novel to fit their interests
and to challenge their reading skills. Students should be reading
nightly and working on their reading response assignments.
