Principal's Notes
Like all other public schools in Arizona, we have a special schedule this week to accommodate required state testing. Ninth graders will be taking the TerraNova test, which replaces the Stanford Nine test this year. The content areas tested are reading, language arts, and mathematics. TerraNova is a norm-referenced test that provides data for national comparisons. Tenth graders will be taking the second half of the AIMS (Arizona Instrument to Measure Standards) test. They took the reading and writing portions earlier this semester, and this week they take the mathematics portion of the test. Core classes will not meet on Tuesday (see schedule on back), but City Works and electives will convene for the regular amount of time. Students must come prepared on Tuesday to read, draw, or do other work quietly if they finish the test early. Thanks for helping ensure that students get a good night of rest on Monday and are in the right mindset for an intense day of testing on Tuesday.
After-school Hours
Students are welcome to stay after school from 3:30-4:30 p.m. There are various options available to them during this time. They can work on homework quietly in the library area, either on their own or with the help of a tutor on tutoring days (Tuesdays and Thursdays). The alley is open for students to hang out with friends, to play foosball or other games. The computer station is also open upstairs for students to work on projects and homework assignments. Teachers and administrators are on campus at this time and are available to work with students if they need assistance. Students who remain on campus during after-school time need to be responsible to keep the noise level down and to not distract the adults and kids who are working throughout the building.
City High Logo Stuff
A variety of shirts with the City High School logo are now available for students and others to purchase. There are a variety of t-shirt styles, sizes and colors for $10 for men and women. There are also white and light blue shirts with a collar available for women for $15. We also have water bottles with the school logo. We’re encouraging students to purchase them at cost ($1), label them, and use them each day in place of cups. Parents and others are more than welcome to purchase logo items as well. Come by the front office and check out the stuff!
Additional Lunch Option
We have expanded the lunch services for fourth quarter. Bean and cheese burritos from Alejandro’s on Scott Ave. are now available on Tuesdays. The burrito lunch (with chips and salsa) is $3.00. If students would like to sign up for the remaining 9 weeks, please submit cash or check for $27 to Lynn.
