Principal's Notes
We’ve gotten a great response so far from students, parents, and local businesses in support of our spring fundraising event, CITY HIGHLIGHTS, to take place Saturday afternoon, April 30, from 2:00-6:00 p.m. The event is an open house at the school with food, drink, live music, displays and presentations of student work. In addition to the activities happening at the school, guests will go on guided tours of downtown for an insider’s look at favorite locales, such as the Arizona Historical Society, MOCA, the Rialto Theatre, the Southern Arizona Transportation Museum, and Dinnerware Contemporary Arts. Another key feature of the event will be a raffle and silent auction. Raffle tickets are on sale throughout the month of April and the drawing will take place April 30.
Students have signed up to volunteer in a variety of capacities: decorations and set up, welcome table at the event, school host, tour guide, and tour location host are the key roles and responsibilities students will be taking on. A number of other students are getting involved by selling raffle tickets over the next few weeks. Parents are helping out by donating their own art work, such as jewelry and glass art, for the raffle and silent auction. Some parents are working with the event co-chairs to coordinate food and drink, while others are helping students with the raffle ticket selling efforts. We’d love to have more people involved, so please let me know if you’d like to help out. And don’t forget to mark the date on your calendars: April 30. We’re looking forward to seeing you all there!
New Lunch Option - Tuesdays
We have expanded the lunch services for fourth quarter. Bean and cheese burritos from Alejandro’s (around the corner from City High School on Scott Ave.) will now be available on Tuesdays. The burrito lunch (with chips and salsa) is $3.00. If students would like to sign up for the remaining 9 weeks, please submit cash or check for $27.
Student Visitors
Student visitors are welcome at City High School. In order to bring a guest, please pick up a visitor request form from Lynn at the front desk. Requests must be signed by a parent and submitted to the principal for approval at least 2 days prior to the visit date. Approval will not be given for special schedule days, the first or last days of a quarter, the day before or after a holiday, or a request that is not received and approved two days before the scheduled visit date.
Please note that we are having 8th grader visiting days for prospective City High School students this spring. The next one is Tuesday, April 19. If you know of any students interested in visiting the school on this day, please have them or their parents contact Eve Rifkin, 623-7223 x301.
City High School Shirts
A variety of shirts with the City High School logo are now available for students and others to purchase. There are regular t-shirts in blue and black with white logo in all sizes for $10; this style is for men and women. There are gray cap sleeve shirts for girls with a small black logo for $10. There are also white and light blue shirts with a collar with a small logo available for women; these are $15. We also have water bottles with the school logo. We’re encouraging students to purchase them at cost ($1), label them, and use them each day in place of cups. Parents and others are more than welcome to purchase logo items as well. Come by and check out the stuff!
