Principal’s Notes
Our next whole school field trip will take place this week. On Thursday morning, March 10, we head to the Leo Rich Theater at the Tucson Convention Center for a chamber music concert. The youth concert is a special event of the Tucson Chamber Music Festival. Excerpts of works by Martinu, Brahms, Bridge, and Fauré will be featured. Students will walk to the concert in advisory groups. After the concert we will stop in La Placita for lunch. Students can bring a bag lunch or money to purchase lunch at one of the restaurants. We have a few extra tickets for PARENT VOLUNTEERS; if you’d like to join us, please call the school and let us know.
Big Fundraising Event in the Works
The development committee of the school board is hard at work planning a fundraising event for the school on SATURDAY, APRIL 30 from 2:00-6:00 p.m. The event will be organized around the “place-based” theme of City High School, with one of the main activities involving special tours of downtown venues, such as the Arizona Historical Society and the newly-renovated Historic Train Depot. The event will also include an open house at the school, featuring exhibitions of student work, live music, food and drink. Also, the development committee is eager to get parents and students involved in the event planning. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Carrie at the school, 623-7223. We hope that all of our City High School families will attend the special event. Look for more information to come and an invitation in the mail. Core Class Feature
Students started reading the play Antigone in their humanities classes this week. The ancient Greek tragedy by Sophocles touches on many classic human conflicts that are still relevant in our society today. Students are doing much of the reading in class, but they have related homework assignments, such as character analyses, to complete on their own in the evenings.
School I.D. Cards Now Available
Earlier in the year a number of students and parents requested that we have City High School I.D. cards. We were able arrange getting the cards through Lifetouch School Portrait company. All students had their photos taken on February 3, and the cards are now available. (See the image on back.) We need families to help cover the cost of the cards. They are $5.00 each. Students or parents can bring cash or check (made to City High School) to Lynn to receive their card. |
