Principal’s Notes
Second semester classes are in full swing, and we’re continuing to integrate community resources and fieldwork as much as possible into the curriculum. In Humanities, students have been exploring economic theory and Adam Smith’s ideas on free market capitalism; as part of this unit, students interviewed businesses in the downtown area to learn firsthand about how supply and demand works and what impact government regulations have on local commerce. Last month, as part of their geology unit in science, all students attended the gem and mineral show at the Tucson Convention Center. This week City Works classes headed to various locations, including the YMCA, the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), and the University of Arizona. On March 10, the whole school will attend the youth concert of the Chamber Music Festival at the TCC Leo Rich Theater. We have additional tickets for 2-3 parent volunteers; if you are interested in joining us, please call me or let your child’s advisor know.

City High School’s First Yearbook!
The Yearbook class is busily in the midst of producing & designing the first annual City High School Yearbook. This yearbook will be an unusual one – each student & staff member will have his or her own page, in addition to more traditional extra-curricular & academic sections (such as CityWorks and Advisory). Each student (and staff member) will have the opportunity to express his or her personality through the yearbook. Our goal is that this will lead to a clear, informative, and, above all, entertaining portrait of the community as a whole, including the wide variety of families, activities, and values our students go home to each evening. Because the students are being given artistic freedom, the Yearbook promises to be very eclectic and full of variety. The Yearbook teacher, along with the administration, have set certain guidelines far as content – inevitably some students will try to push the envelope, so we are here to make sure they don’t push it too far. We would love for the families to be a part of the creative process, and encourage each parent to ask their child what their “vision” for their yearbook page is. A few of the students’ pages are already complete; take a look at a few of them on the back of this bulletin. Please contact teacher Camellia Cosgray with any questions, comments, or concerns you may have at camellia@cityhighschool.org or 623.7223 x207.
