Principal's Notes
The inter-session week is going well with students engaged in a variety of projects and field trips. Students are also spending time this week preparing for their conferences with parents and advisors on Thursday and Friday. The focus for the conference preparation is to review their coursework from first semester, to develop their portfolios, and to be ready to present certain significant assignments. We are helping students to find connections between their course work and the school's habits of heart and mind - reflection, expression, evidence, perspective, action, and inquiry - so that they understand and can discuss their learning on a deeper level as well.

As we transition from first semester to second semester, advisors and teachers have been encouraging students who are behind in one or more classes to finalize any make-up work they need to do. Students who are pursuing honors candidacy also need to turn in all projects this week. Teachers will finalize semester grades on Monday, February 7. Students put in their preferences for their second semester electives earlier this week and will receive their new schedules on Monday. Elective options include Monday/Friday choices: fusion fitness (YMCA), drawing and painting, guitar, creative writing, photojournalism, soccer, and homework tutorial. The Tuesday/Thursday choices are: biking, martial arts, theater, yearbook, yoga, homework tutorial, and City Works design.

School Photos & Student IDs
We have contracted with Lifetouch School Portrait company to take student photographs on February 3. Students received information about the picture day and portrait packet options early last week in advisory. Please see the reverse side for portrait options; we have more order forms at the office. All students will have a photograph taken, whether or not the family is purchasing a package. Photos will be used to create City High School identification cards, which will cost $5.00 per student. For more information about the photo day or school IDs, please contact Lynn at the front desk.

Upcoming Student Conferences
Just a reminder that student conferences are taking place this week: Thursday, February 3 and Friday, February 4. All students should have an end-of-semester conference with their advisor and a parent or guardian. The conference is designed as a time for students to present key content and skills they have learned and practiced throughout the semester. It is also an opportunity for them to reflect on and discuss their grades, overall progress, and second semester goals. Students will attend school for a half day on those days with classes ending at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday and 12:00 noon on Friday. Please call Lynn at the front office 623-7223 to schedule a conference.
