Principal's Notes
We are planning a special inter-session week between semesters for January 31-February 4. Students and teachers are involved in planning the inter-session schedule, which will have academic, service-oriented, and community-building components. Some of the classes and activities planned include a production of Alice in Wonderland by the theater class, community service projects, AIMS prep sessions for tenth graders, cultural outings with advisories, intensive tutoring, preparation for student conferences with advisors, the actual student conferences (see below), and a whole school field trip for a show at the Berger Performing Arts Center.

Many students have expressed interest in after-school arts and fitness classes, and we are working with a number of organizations to connect City High School students with quality programs. The Tucson Museum of Art is sponsoring two classes for teens, running February 1-April 15. They have offered a discounted tuition for all City High School students. For more information, call 624-2333. Art in Reality (AIR) will begin their next round of classes the week of February 27. This fall we had students enrolled in a variety of AIR classes, including capoeira, bellydancing, DJ school, and martial arts. AIR classes are free to Pima County youth. The nonprofit PRIME School of Music has lessons in everything from mariachi to classical to rock. We have information on all of their offerings in the school lobby; you can also call 327-4166.

Hearing Screenings
As required by law, we conducted hearing screenings this week for all students. Re-screenings, if necessary, will take place in the next 30-45 days. Parents will be notified within the next couple of months if your child is recommended for further evaluation. Feel free to call Eve Rifkin, 623-7223 x301 if you have any questions about the testing process.

Upcoming Student Conferences
Just a reminder that student conferences are taking place Thursday, February 3 and Friday, February 4. All students should have an end-of-semester conference with their advisor and a parent or guardian. The conference is designed as a time for students to present key content and skills they have learned and practiced throughout the semester. It is also an opportunity for them to reflect on and discuss their grades, overall progress, and second semester goals. Students will attend school for a half day on those days with classes ending at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday and 12:00 noon on Friday. Please call Lynn at the front office 623-7223 to schedule a conference.

Theater Class
All students in the theater elective are involved in a production of Alice in Wonderland. Please see the notice on back from the instructor about upcoming practices.
