These norms will provide a guide for all of us in our classes and throughout the school as we strengthen our community.

Student Voice Committee
An important goal at City High School is fostering student leadership. The Student Voice Committee is a way to give students a direct role in school governance. The students who attended the first committee meeting on October 6 identified many areas that they would like the Student Voice Committee to explore and influence: facilities, social events, academic program, extracurricular activities, rules and policies, technology, post-secondary preparation, and strengthening the school community. In the short time available the students generated many ideas worth pursuing, including creating a mural for one of the building’s many blank white walls, expanding the number of sports teams, coordinating individual storage space for students, and designing incentives that motivate all students to do better in school.
The committee will meet twice a month on Wednesday mornings for the remainder of the school year. One meeting a month will be one hour in length, the other meeting will be a half-hour in length. All students who would like to participate and are willing to commit to attending meetings regularly are welcome to get involved. The meetings for the next three months are 10/20 9:30-10:30, 11/3 10:15-10:45, 11/17 9:30-10:30, 12/1 10:15-10:45, 12/15 9:30-10:30. Students who have expressed an interest in participating thus far include Sophie Jones, Beryl Kelley, Kathy Loma, Briana Martinez, Tal Palmer-Gai, Mercy Peyron, Alex Matthews, Leigh Moyer, Daniel Mulholland, Jackie Ramirez, Francisco Robertson, Abriel Thomas, and Kate Young. An important goal for the committee make-up is to have at least one student from each of the seven advisories, so that the group can act as a representative body by communicating directly with the whole student body through advisory.
