Principal's Notes
I am very impressed with how students have taken on leadership roles in the first weeks of school. Many students seem to be aware of the strong impact they can have on the school in their unique role as pioneers. Whether it’s brainstorming ideas for a mascot, thinking about creative ways to decorate the school, planning to start a school band, or imagining a first dance, students are buzzing with ideas about how to shape City High School.
Student Jeremy Hall took the initiative to organize City High School’s first after-school activity - a boys basketball team. All boys interested in playing basketball should attend an organizational meeting in the school library area on Wednesday 9/22 at 9:30 a.m. We are eager to build on this momentum and work with students to plan other after-school activities to begin in the next couple of weeks. Any students interested in starting a club, sports team, or other type of activity should come talk with me so that I or other staff members can help them get it off the ground.
Please look for students to bring home the Weekly Bulletin at the beginning of each week, and a copy is posted on the school website (www.cityhighschool.org). The Bulletin is one way to help keep families informed of what’s happening at school. I also encourage parents to call or email if questions or concerns arise. The school number is 623-7223, and my extension is #203.

In the Field
Four of the City Works classes headed off campus for their Wednesday afternoon classes last week. The Fine Arts City Works class visited the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) and Etherton Gallery. Another class toured the partially-renovated interior of the Fox Theatre, while a third group of students ventured to the Southwest Preventive Health Center for a full health screening. The Community Technology City Works class toured the downtown station of the Tucson Fire Department and then headed to the Public Works building for a satellite mapping presentation by the Pima County Department of Transportation. On Thursday or Friday (depending on the group), all students spent part of their Humanities class on a brief walking tour of Congress Street, practicing their skills of observation to look for clues about the history, politics, and economics of downtown Tucson.
Lunch Program
While students are often "in the field" as part of their studies at City High School, we do have a closed campus in the sense that students cannot leave unaccompanied during lunch. There are refrigerators and microwaves available for students to store and heat food brought from home. We have contracted with two area restaurants to provide lunch service on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays this semester. We have tried to keep the lunch prices reasonable and to provide families with as much flexibility as possible in paying for the lunches. Students need to order lunches ahead of time so that we have an accurate count, but they can do so by the semester, the month, or each week. Please see the full lunch information sheet that was sent home with students the first week of school (on the back). We are working to register the school with the federal lunch program as quickly as possible and will keep families who qualify for subsidized lunches informed of our progress.
